Composition - Balance
Balance in Composition. There are a lot of opinions about what makes a balanced Photograph. Symmetrical is considered Formal Balance and Adhering to the Rule of Thirds is considered Informal Balance. However in the Rule of Thirds you can often created areas of negative space that are not pleasing and do not draw the viewer into the the photograph.
For the purpose of this contest we are looking for Informal Balance in your Photograph. The Rule of Thirds will apply to the main subject but there needs to be a smaller less important subject to offset the main subject to bring about balance in the Photograph. Balance, dissimilar elements they should balance each other out on either side of the frame. Informal balance can occur with objects of any size, but it is most visually appealing to have a larger object balanced out with a smaller object or several smaller objects. This type of balance usually follows the rule of thirds.
