Asia is the world's largest and most populated continent. With approximately 4 billion people, it contains more than 60% of the world's current population.
East Asia consisting of China, Japan, and Korea share social and moral philosophy as well as religion, especially Buddhism and Taoism.
South Asia including some North Indian states, Pakistan and Afghanistan share a common heritage. The four South Indian states and Sri Lanka share a culture, due to the prominence of Dravidian languages there. Bangladesh and West Bengal share a common heritage and culture based on the Bengali language. Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, founded in the region are spread throughout the subcontinent.
Southeast Asia including Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Timor, Brunei and the Philippines has been greatly influenced by the cultures and religions of India and China as well as the religions of Islam and Christianity. Common features also include stilt houses, rice paddy agriculture, dance, the arts and literature.
West Asia (formerly known as the Middle East) consists of Turkey, Syria, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Palestinian territories, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen. The region is the historical birthplace of religions such as: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Today, it is almost 93% Muslim and dominated by Islamic politics. West Asian cuisine, immensely rich and diverse, is a fusion of Turkish, Arabian, North African and Persian cuisine. The literature is also rich and one of the most famous literary works of West Asia is 1001 Arabian Nights.
Central Asia consists of the five former Soviet Socialist Republics: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The predominant religion is Islam. It has a long rich history based on its historic position on the famous Silk Road. It has a very distinct, vibrant culture influenced by Chinese, Indian, Persian, Arabian, Turkish, Russian, Sarmatian and Mongolian cultures. The music and cuisine is rich and varied and one of the most famous Central Asian foods is the kebab.
North Asia (Russia) has roughly 40 million people today.
From cuisine to literature, to religion, to clothing and Art, there are many influences to get your creative juices flowing. Show how you are influenced and what appeals to you for this contest. The spectrum is very broad.
Create a Traditional or Digital Artwork that somehow incorporates the topic. The artwork should clearly be about the topic. Creative approaches are welcomed. But contest voters will be asked to consider the topic when making a choice for a winner.
