Wattle Point wind farm opened in 2005 and was at that time was the largest wind farm in Australia with 55 wind turbines covering 17.5 square kilometres (6.8 sq miles)and was built at a cost of 180 million AUD. The wind farm produces about 2% of the states power (91 megawatts).
Construction came to a stop in 2004 due to claims by indigenous land owners that the construction was desecrating the aboriginal burial grounds. Archaeology reports proved that the discovery of human remains, artefacts and tools on the site had originally been buried elsewhere and later reburied on the Wattle Point site.
