On our road trip we travelled to Menindee Lakes which when the four lakes are full have a combined area of water larger than Sydney Harbour when dry it is red dust and saltbush which is mainly what we encountered with some puddles and a very low river. In these conditions the emu's were thriving and the feral goats in abundance around Broken Hill which is one hours drive from the lakes. We had to stop very quickly as we were travelling along the dirt roads within the park and mother emu was as quick to usher the chicks along the road and off into the scrub out of harms way.
