Unknown bird -Australian Grebe

Went to the billabong and was disappointed that there were so few varieties of birds compared to last visit - maybe they migrate for summer. This tiny bird was swimming happily, only about the size of my hand and not sure what it is, have seen it there once before and just thought it was a baby duck but its size has not changed since spring. Anyone that can identify the little one please let me know. :) Mary
