The birds fly into the gum trees along the riverbank at Burke which is around 1,130km from Adelaide in the Outback. Numbers have reduced over the years as cotton crops and other farming has cleared their natural environment. Drought in the outback also impacts. Where there used to be flocks of up to 2,000 and now they number around 100-200.
