The Australian Bustard is a very large, heavy-bodied, ground-dwelling bird up to one m tall which mainly occurs in inland Australia and is now scarce or absent from southern and south-eastern Australia. This one was running along the road in front of our car as we drove down the mountain back towards the coast then scampered off to the side in amongst the grass.
