BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW...A NOTE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER:
I am a Naturalist, No-Blow-Up-Doll look WHEN IT COMES TO Fashion, Glamour, or Nudes. I use different positions based on Geometric Structures, Symmetry, and Color Codes, using as little lighting, photo studio techniques, and Pre-or-Post Production Jazzing as humanely possible, and still be able turn out a Strong Piece. (A Natural Photo, With a Naturally Beautiful Model). It is very, very difficult to accomplish that...I feel often more difficult than using mathematical electronic equations, half-a-ton of studio peripheral equipment, lighting, pre-fixed and frozen Studio Notions, as to what Photo Fashion, Glamour, and Nude Photography is.
You cannot make a woman more beautiful than she is...no matter how hard you try...you are just jazzing up the photo to make a startling image. It leaves the model nowhere, as she will never, ever look that beautiful again in her entire life; to me it is a destructive art, not constructive art. These are just a few of My Own Philosophies reference Fashion, Glamour, and Nudes...women do not walk like that, few women act like that, and even less truly want to be like that...they do however wish to be beautiful; and they are truly beautiful; just presented and being natural. In the Real World there are Shadows and Sun that Play Across the Face and Body, some good, some bad, but that is nature and I do not wish to change or rearrange it. If I place a Photo here on FANART, it is because I personally like it with all of its natural defects, and (0) Zero Pre-or-Post Editing; nothing more, and nothing less. For example, If a Strobe Light on the Hair of a model I use, makes her hair look like shiny diamonds, well that is what the sun does, and the Photo was chosen purposely to be that way. I don't display mistakes, I display what I like. Art is in the Eye-of-the-Beholder, not the Art Critic.
I have zero problems with Critiques that are well done, and I often learn from them...but there is a difference in between healthy discussion, strong pointed critiques, and TRASHING someone's Art, Concepts, and Person...there is nothing constructive about it, and it is just plan mean-spirited in most cases. Please, as a Reader of this diatribe; do not feel that this point is aimed at you, because it is not! There is a Very Fine Mix of Amateur and Professional Artists from all over the World on FANART; 99%...a truly high number, that have shown nothing but the best in their Approach, Critiques, Their Art, and their Good Will. I like that, and that is why I am here!
I have said, and I think I am misunderstood: If you don't like the Art, Concept, or the Artist, don't do the Critique! For example...let's say you really, really dislike Modernistic Landscapes, why in the world would you do a Critique on one? Automatically you would be going in with Pre-Conceived Notions, Dislikes, and a Very Strong Bias against the Art Piece, the Artist, and the Concept...this is where the trashing starts to come in. I don't do Reviews or Critiques that way, and It does not make me happy to receive them.
If you look at Art History for example...at one time the Realists were Dominant, in fact they were the only thing, and any other Type of Art was an Aberration Against God and Man...Artists were Hung and Burned at the Stake. Sooo, when I see trashing, I will butt heads with anyone, no matter how good they are, because; where does one get off in Judging a Class of Photos, Oils, Watercolors, Electronic Art, Botanicals, or Landscapes; if it is not what they do, if it is not what they like, and so, in all fairness they should steer clear.
Also note, if you make a Living Strictly from Your Art and Your Concepts, you are no longer in the Amateur Category, you would have to by all definition of the law, call yourself a Professional.
I always like and appreciate any and all critiques that are fair in relation to the subject, that are well intended, and have been done with a touch of Class; called: Good Manners and Warmth. My Best Regards to All of the Members of FANART and Thank You So Much For Reviewing My Works. John
