Despite having a love of art and design all my life, I only began drawing and painting earnestly in early 2008 and it was my lifelong passion for wolves which led me to purchase my first set of pastels. In fact, until that point, I had never even held a pastel before.

My artistic journey really began in February 2008 when I discovered the work of Nottingham artist, Vic Bearcroft, whilst browsing the internet. Vic is renowned for his animal paintings, particularly wolves. On seeing his stunning artwork, I was insired to get myself a set of pastels, some velour paper and try my hand at creating my own wolf pictures to decorate my home with.

My first wolf picture, Snow Wolf, was created after receiving permission from Canadian amateur photographer, Luc Durocher, to create a picture from his original photograph. Once completed, I immediately began another painting using a public domain photograph I found on the internet and the result was Autumn Spirit. Immediately after completing Autumn Spirit, I took one of my favourite photographs of our family pet, Taz, and created Paws for Thought.

By this time, I had fallen in love with my pastels and spent every spare moment creating my own art. 12 months later, my portfolio held over 30 different pieces of art covering a variety of subjects such as my beloved wolves, churches, portraits, pets, landscapes and flowers.

Amongst my Wolf paintings are portraits of two members of the younger wolf pack at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust (UKWCT). In October 2008 Paul and I, along with many other people, celebrated World Animal Day at the UKWCT where I not only saw a wolf for the very first time in my life but also met the man who inspired me to begin painting, Vic Bearcroft. Between us Paul and I took over 1200 photographs of the UKWCT wolves which were used as resource for my paintings of Torak and Mai.

In my spare time, along with painting, I enjoy photography, reading, swimming, walking and anything creative. When I eventually retire, my dream is to live in a log cabin somewhere close to wild wolves!

Artist Notes
This is an idea I've had on my mind for some time now and last weekend, with the Bank Holiday affording me some of that very rare and special 'play time', I decided to finally get it down on paper, so to speak.

Since I began painting/drawing last year, I have done a couple of pictures of a wolf howling but have never been satisfied with them - probably because wolves tend to howl with their eyes closed so I didn't have my preferred 'tool' (the eyes) to convey a story or feeling with. Later last year, I had the idea to re-do one of my original howling wolves as part of a dreamcatcher design but it never advanced from the idea stage.

Anyway, last weekend, with the Bank Holiday affording me some of that very rare and special 'play time', I decided to finally get my idea down on paper, so to speak. The result is a re-vamp of one of my earlier howling wolf pictures to which I added a background of mountains and water and 'framed' with a hide, bead and feather dreamcatcher design. Finally, in keeping with the theme of the idea I had, I added tipi silhouettes to create a subtle background to the entire piece.

I was going to enter this in the upcoming exhibition but have decided, now it's finished, that I want to keep it, lol! There will be a limited edition of prints available but I have a special spot reserved for the original on my bedroom wall :)

Thanks for viewing and I hope you enjoy "The Message" :)
