Sirthomas1960 lives in the back-blocks of rural SE Victoria, and is an amateur artist, writer, renovator, and gardener who would love to make a living from any of the above...but as a recently single dad to the most handsome and clever 7 and 9 year old boys in all of Australia, and quite possibly anywhere else, he finds just surviving their childhood is far too much of a time filler to allow his creative pursuits much more than fleeting interest.
He has been interested in art from an early age, and worked in mainly oils until the last decade or so, when he started to dabble in coloured pencil, and then watercolour pencil. Almost exclusively his work is traditional, and very realistic, but he craves the ability to be more expressive in his artwork...to just let himself go, so to speak wistfully.
Since joining FAR he has discovered the joys of digital art, and can now create to his heart's content without the worry of having his two mini tornadoes making a bomb site of his humble home...now he just wishes there were more hours in his day!
Now selling prints (or trying to!), framed and unframed, from US$14.24 at his online store at http://sirthomas1960.imagekind.com
...and also from AUS$19.50 at http://sirthomas1960.redbubble.com
He has won several contests. The contest submission
Canal Life was the first place winner in the contest Urbanism Art.

Artist Notes
Been away for a few weeks, and you'll soon guess where. This painting is from photos I took in the Philippines on a 2 week holiday. I stayed in Manila for as little time as possible, but this was one view from the condo I stayed at the first night.
I've been to the Philippines a few times, but I can never come to grips with Manila. It is such a dirty, noisy, chaotic seething mass of humanity...I think roughly 20 million people and still rising rapidly.
I was lucky on this occasion. The day after this, as I was about to head north to the countryside, you could only just see through the smog to the church in the centre of the painting, and two days later Manila was hit by a monster of a typhoon that made the international news.
I painted this with as much detail as my patience would allow, trying to convey a realistic impression of the visual chaos that's been created in this amazing place. As much as I think this is the ugliest place I've ever been to at ground level, I still think there is a majestic beauty that comes across in this elevated view...it's kaleidescopic mosaic of greens, blues and reds in the rooftops, the dull greys of concrete...the Philippines' favourite city building material, the flashes of white, and the all too rare vegetation snaking it's way through the streets.
Hope you enjoy the madness
