Solar Dragonflies

Mixed Media Photograph of the Month Contest Entry
This started with a clear plastic dragonfly I found in a garden shop. I didn't buy it, but I did take a picture. After I traced and copied it I made two and I placed them in png, format. I though I'd go solar with them so I created a solar atmosphere for my alien dragonflies.

I painted the background then put in some stars, bubbles ( if they don't pop bubbles have to go somewhere) and a super nova. I didn't want the center of the Nova so I offset it off the page. Everything had to be placed in just the right spot.

To add color to the dragon flies I saturated them and placed them in glowing edges. I wanted the wings to be clear and frosted so before I worked on the dragonfly body I removed them. I used the transparency filter so one could see through them as we ordinarily would, then used rough film grain in "speckle mode" to give them a frosted appearance.

For the bubbles I simply went to my bubble maker and chose the size and colors I wanted, then placed them where I wanted. The same was true for the stars, but there I chose the style.

Since the dragon flies did not have eyes I created them with special two tone effects and placed them where they should be

Hope you enjoy my mixed media creation
