Artist Notes
Glory Of Sunrise: To me, an early morning country sunrise, with parted clouds being splashed with the spectacular intensity of the rising sun, is among the most beautiful of all sights. It transports me into a mystical world of childish wonder with thoughts of the universe, about my mortality and of spirituality. This scene is from a 62 year old memory. It is what I recall from the elders family farm that had several horses, a few cows, huge barns and two handcrafted houses of endless character. I cherished my summertime visits and the overnight sleeps in the barn. Always an early riser, a 10-minute walk through deep dew-moistened grasses would take me to the far side of the fencing. I could then witness the transformation of the silhouetted horizon into a detailed landscape with a kaleidoscope of colorful shapes. The mesmerizing golden rays poured into the landscape, changing in luminosity and animating the shadows. It was a breathtaking sight that was never disappointing and impossible to forget. That part of the family heritage has been gone for decades; the farm sold and plowed under for subdivided lots that feature featureless homes and grass sculptured to perfect texture and height. The character has long been swallowed by time and sprawl. As the elders pass to the other side, such precious memories will slowly fade into obscurity and the world loses its foundation of nourishment.
This is a painting that has been created exclusively with Photoshop CS5. There were no imported or reference photos used. The full size painting is 48 x 72 inches and required 52 hours to complete.
