This is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. This is one on my favorite of the butterflies. He is sitting on a button bush flower. I live close to a public fishing lake which has a road going all around it. There is one part of this area that is thick with the button bush and is loaded with butterflies. I drove close to this one and shot through the car window, I think this is a good way to get closer to subjects. They don't seem to mind the car but if you walk up on them, some will fly.
I am using an Olympus E3 camera ISO 400 with a 70-300mm lens 250/sec f8
