This is a Killdeer. They are a common shore bird. They are a fun bird to watch especially when they are nesting. They will nest directly on the ground. They look for gravel beds or parking lots or gravel roads anywhere there is gravel of small loose rocks. The babies hatch out and are ready to run. I love to watch the parents if you get close to the nest they will act like something is wrong with them. They flop around and drag their wing and make a lot of racket so you will follow them. The eggs are very hard to see. They blend in with the gravel.
I am using an Olympus E3 camera ISO 400 with a 70-300mm lens 750/sec f13
