When out for my morning walk on 5/19/12 I spotted the first Ducklings for this year. I had heard rumors that there were babies in the 55 plus community my wife and I live in. I had the opportunity to take many many shots of the babies. During the time I was observing them a Great Blue Heron landed in the lagoon. Momma Duck and the babies hid in the lily pads and water vegetation. You see Great Blue Herons like baby ducks as snacks. Here is some additional information about Mallards: "QUOTE" Upon hatching, the plumage colouring of the duckling is yellow on the underside and face (with streaks by the eyes) and black on the backside (with some yellow spots) all the way to the top and back of the head. Its legs and bill are also black. As it nears a month in age, the duckling's plumage will start becoming drab, looking more like the female (though its plumage is more streaked) and its legs will lose their dark grey colouring.[11] Two months after hatching, the fledgling period has ended and the duckling is now a juvenile. Between three to four months of age, the juvenile can finally begin flying as its wings are fully developed for flight (which can be confirmed by the sight of purple speculum feathers). Its bill will soon lose its dark grey colouring and its sex can finally be distinguished by three factors. The bill colouring is yellow in males, black and orange for females. The breast feathers are reddish-brown for males, brown for females. The centre tail feather is curled for males (called a drake feather), straight for females. "END QUOTE" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallard This picture was taken on 5/19/12 at 9:13 am. It was taken in Japanese Gardens 55 Plus Community. Bright and sunny day. It was taken with a Sony Alpha 330 with a Promaster 70-300 mm lens Camera supported on tripod. Camera settings were as follows: f-stop = f9.0, Shutter speed 1/40, ISO 200, FL = 280 mm, White Balance = Auto, Exposure Bias = 0, Exposure Program = Aperture Priority.

Wrights Wow Pictures
John has been interested in photography for over 40 years. He thought that he was an excellent photographer John had taken over 20,000 pictures in his life time. In June of 2010 his wife purchased a Sony Alpha 330 and a course on line from jroush@roushstudios.com. He thought he knew a lot about taking pictures, but he found that he had not even scratched the surface about understanding the art of photography John is on his way to becoming a great photographer.

John's current adventure in photography began in the Paducah Kentucky area. Then job opportunities for his wife sent them to Colorado Springs Colorado for four months. He and his wife Jen now reside in a 55 plus community that borders on Old Tampa Bay in Clearwater FL. On the property there is a drainage lagoon that empties into Old Tampa Bay. It is a wild life photographers paradise. There has never been a time John has gone looking for wild life that he has not had the opportunity to capture a new bird in pict ...
