Artist Notes
These men begin their work at 6 a.m. and finish at 6 p.m. They get one hour for lunch and two tea breaks in the day. They stand in water, day after day after day working with bleach and detergents. Imagine the skin problems they must be faced with from fungal growth to skin breakdown. The clothes get dried in a large field then to the ironing section where for 12 hours men and women work with a charcoal heated iron that weighs 8 kilograms (17.2 pounds). These people earn 300 rupees per day which is about 6 American dollars. This is INDIA.
On my camera there is a fancy button which I just recently found. It automatically changes photographs to a more painterly effect and I used this button to create this image. I then further worked on it in PS.
