A brief history of Lunenburg from Wikipedia with changes from me,
Situated on the province's South Shore, Lunenburg is located on a peninsula at the western side of Mahone Bay...The town was established during Father Le Loutre's Warin 1753, four years after Halifax. The town was one of the first British attempts to settle Protestants in Nova Scotia and, as a result, the (Catholic) Wabanaki Confederacy raided the community nine times in the early years of the settlement.
The original inhabitants of Lunenburg (mostly Germans from the southern Rhineland, Swiss and French Protestants from Montbéliard) came during the same wave of immigration that produced the Pennsylvania Dutch. They were "Foreign Protestants" encouraged by the British to settle in the area.[10] Lunenburg was settled by Foreign Protestants who came from the present day Tripoint of France, Germany and Switzerland. The town was named in honour of King George II, who also happened to be the duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg
The historic town was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site in 1995. This designation ensures protection for much of Lunenburg's unique architecture and civic design, being the best example of planned British colonial settlement in North America. The original 1753 street plan is still in existance
Today Lunenburg remains a vibrant Town with an impressive mix of industry, shops, services, and an eclectic artist community. I hope you enjoy seeing Lunenburg from our POV,
This is a shot of the Harbor in Lunenburg. It was taken at 6am just as the sun was rising behind the hill the Town is laid out. In the FG reflected in the low tide is the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, a great place for visitors to stop as there are great articles of some really BIG FISH TAILS to be read and history to absorb there. The seaweed in the FG is visible every low tide and though it breaks the reflection I hope you think it add interest like I did when I say it.
The buildings leading up the hill behind the Museum are either built streets that run along the shore or going directly up and down over the hill, interest driving in a standard, LOL. Those building can all trace their histories back to the mid 1850â??s or earlier and the architure is unchanged from that time.
I love the sunrise and the golden effect it seems to have when I took this shot of a very special place in the Maritimes for us. And the journey wills contiuneâ?¦.
Great day everyone
Cropped contrast fill light and recovery with brightness and shadows all tweeked to some degree (taken 2010)
