Artist Notes
The Red-tailed Hawk is one of the largest birds in North America, weighing in at about 3.5 to 4 pounds, with the female being larger than the male. They are known for their brick-colored tails, but there are 14 subspecies with various colorations, and not all of them have the characteristic red tail.

With eyesight about 8 times as powerful as humans, they are keen-eyed and efficient hunters, preferring open areas, such as fields, with high perching places nearby from which they can watch for prey.

They eat mostly [eighty-five to ninety percent] small rodents, but will also eat snakes, turtles, frogs, lizards, fish and small birds.

Red-tailed hawks pair up for life and tend to breed and hunt in the same 9 to 10 square mile territory their entire lives,

The powerful cry of a red-tailed hawk is the same cry used in TV commercials depicting bald eagles. [Advertisers feel the hawk's voice sounds more regal and eagle-like than the eagle's voice!]

NOTE: This photo was taken at the Fort Worth Zoo through glass. Dark background was color of the back wall of the enclosure.

This photo was taken with my Canon T1i Camera with a Tamron 18-270 mm Lens. Handheld, 1/200 sec; f/5.6; 100 ISO.

Small adjustment to lighting; cropped; Resized for FAR

Rebecca was born with a love for animals, and nature as a whole. Throughout her life, she has always had a very close relationship with nature, seeing animals as individuals who share the planet with her. When she decided to take up photography as a hobby, it just came natural to photograph the things she loves.

Her expertise is taking photographs 'up close and personal' so she can show the individual animal's personality. This has resulted in many exquisite photographs that touch the heart and has won her many awards and much praise.

Just recently, she made the decision to share some of her beautiful photographs with the world.
