Artist Notes
July 2012 celebrates the 149th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1,2,3, 1863.
This is a photograph of Maj. General Dan Sickles and his men making the charge on a confederate stronghold. He charged a bit too quickly and the Confederate Army has an easy time shooting them down. Sickles had his leg blown off and as he was being taken off the battle field he looked calm, laying there, smoking a cigar.
He kept his severed leg for several years in his office, he later donated it to the Army Medical Museum in Washington DC, where it is on display today. WTF
Another fact about Dan was he was the 1st person in America to be acquitted for murder by temporary insanity. Oh, by the way he shot and killed his wifes lover, Barton Key, the son of Francis Scott Key the writer of the National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner.
Placed a Palette Knife Layer in PSE6 to give this a painting look. This was from a Civil War reenactment from a month ago.
