Artist Notes
The white waves crashing over the dark rocks caught my attention at the beach one day and I knew I needed to paint this! I decided to start with a lavendar undercoat, so that its hue would compliment the greenish-blue theme. I used a limited Acrylic palette of Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, and Zinc White. I wanted to depict the ocean's natural rhythm as the waves broke over the shallow rocks, in addition to bringing out the contrast between the dark, wet shadows and the white spray.
Acrylics on canvas.
