Artist Notes
Temperament is the key to my artistic bend. Each painting has its own personality. Depending on the piece in question it may have been maimed, murdered and resurrected in the same sitting. This process has led to many bouts of rage and thoughts of burning canvas lighting the skyline outside my studio, completely ignorant to the well being of passersby. Although this fast and loose style has led to failures, it has also opened the door to new realms of artistic inquiry I would've previously ignored. By delving into several aspects of physical representation, I was able to search for what constitutes a painting. Most recently I have used scale and medium to serve as a tool to encapsulate the viewer. I've found that presenting something on a monumental scale has not only loosened up my style but also forced the viewer to take notice. This becomes all the more apparent in my monumental scaled portraits, which pose as a commentary on "typical" portraiture.
