The Green Man occurs thorough history in many cultures around, but those occurrences seem only loosely related or not at all. Interesting that there seems no particular myth, folk or fairytale about The Green Mann either. In many cultures he is related to vegetable deities. Sometimes he is a symbol of rebirth. In Greek mythology we have Satyrs. In Celtic mythology there is Lud. In Mesopotamian it was Tammuz. The Egyptian god Osiris is pictured with green skin. There are the Greek Pan, Shakespeares Puck and Jack in the Green. Even Robin Hood and Peter Pan got associated with the Green Man. In traditional art The Green Man it is usually a face surrounded by, or made from leaves. Sometimes branches fruits and flowers are part of the artwork. A few artworks showing a figure complete with head and body are known, especially in modern versions. My Green Man is loosely based on a small sculpture in a neighbors garden.
