Red deer and Roe deer are the only truly native deer to Great Britain. There are a few other types which have been introduced over the years. The red deer is Britain's largest land mammal. The summer coat is reddish brown to brown, the winter coat brown to grey. The stag or hart has antlers, the number of branches of which increase with age. They can live up to 18 years. They inhabit woodland or moorland and eat grass, small shrubs and tree shoots. We don't have any red deer around where I live by the coast but we do have Roe deer here. I used soft chalk pastels on pastel paper for this. Hope you like it.
