Floating on the River Torrens are 5 glass boat sculptures entitled Talking Our Way Home work by an Adelaide artist Shaun Kirby. To read the writing you need to hop on a Paddle Boat to get close enough :) There used to be a migrant hostel nearby called Elder Park Hostel where Mr Kirby spent a short time on arrival from UK in the 1960's. My family immigrated from UK in 1958 and we stayed at this Hostel for 6 weeks. I look at this artwork as a tribute to all of those migrants who packed up their wordly goods and children to start a new life in this beautiful country. Others may have different perspective of the meaning of the glass boats.
