I love all types of cats, big or small and like trying to capture them in paint or pastels. This is an African lion, watching over his pride. These lions are gradually losing numbers because of men shooting them to save their cattle and also lions are becoming susceptible to an HIV type illness known as FIV - feline immunodeficiency virus. I used soft chalk pastels on pastel paper for this.
