Barbary sheep are excellent, sure-footed jumpers and climbers. Their heavy horns help them with balance. They have an exceptional ability to hide by remaining motionless when threatened. These Barbary sheet are resident at the Adelaide Zoo in the city but there is also quite a number out at the free range zoo of Monarto. Barbary sheep have a mane of long, soft hairs on the throat, chest and upper parts of the forelegs, especially males. Both sexes have heavy horns. Barbary Sheep stand 80-100cm tall at the shoulder and weigh 40-140kg. They are a sandy-brown colour, which darkens with age.
