Adelaide Zoo has an echinda enclosure and on the numerous visits I have only seen one twice once poking its nose out from behind the rocks and this time running across the open space to get to the rocks. This is a short nosed echinda which are found all over Australia where there main food source are ants and termites. If they feel threatened they either curl into a ball or run and hide in the rocks or wedge themselves into logs. They are mammals and lay eggs.
