This is an image of a female knight beneath a lake as may be seen from her reflection in the surface above. I have called her 'The Maid' because this was a popular appellation for similar knights like Joan of Arc and Bradamante in the Rolando epics. I will shortly be writing a poem about her story which I have dreamed up to be one of patient revenge. In this image, she's patiently lurking in the lake awaiting the approach of a bitter foe before she will rise like a phoenix to break the surface and issue her challenge.
