Located in Sanjiang County, in Southern China, the Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in China. Built in 1916, it is the crystal of Dong people's wisdom and the largest Wind and Rain Bridge in China. It sits among a cluster of Dong villages, providing a good base for exploring ethic culture and rural China. Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge is also called Yongji Bridge or Panlong Bridge. It is one of the artistic precious things of Chinese wood architecture. The bridge is 64.4 meters long, 3.4 metes wide and 10.6 meters high. Constructed with wood and stones, the surface of the bridge is paved with wooden boards and both sides are inlayed with railings. The Dong people also erect covered bridges with porches and pavilions which provide shelter even when it rains. Hence the beautiful name Wind and Rain Bridge. What?s more surprising is that Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge was built without any nails or rivets. Instead, talented Dong people dove-tailed many pieces of wood. Though several decades old, the bridge is still very sturdy and looks like a brilliant rainbow crossing over the river.
