CLEMATIS seed-pod

.....The Final Act

I grow three different varieties of CLEMATIS in my gardens. Considering all three are in the same genus it is surprising how different their seed-pods are. The one pictured here is from CLEAMTIS Jackmanii.....a large purple hybrid. It is a profuse bloomer planted with LONICERA (aka- 'Honeysuckle') right next to a white, wooden arbor in my garden.

This year the CLEMATIS finally scrambled up over the top and headed down the other side of the arbor. While I love seeing the purple CLEMATIS and red/orange Honeysuckle intertwined what I really enjoy are these big fluffy seed-pods once the blossom is gone. The seed itself - still hidden at this point- is at the inner end of each waving arm you see in this photo. In another day or two the seeds will ripen and the long 'tail' will act like the tail of a kite....seeds dispersed by a breeze.....another season complete.
