The Long Room Library at Trinity College Dublin. Trinity college was founded in 1592. The Library building designed by Thomas Burg was built in 1860. The long room is 200 feet long (66.6 yards or 61.5 metres) it contains 6,000,000 books, in shelves lining 15 alcoves around each window on two levels. It used to contain the Book of Kells (An historic illuminated book of the Gospels) in a glass cabinet. This is now in the room below the Library which houses an interpretive centre showing how the book was made. There are also other illuminated manuscripts & Gospels & Bibles to be seen there. Susan
