Halloween Art Contest Contest Entry
Happy Halloween to you all! Hope it's a delightfully spooky one :)
Here's a poem I composed to accompany this image of The Great Red Witch.
The Great Red Witch
Oh my dear friends, take care! Take care!
The great red witch rides out tonight.
Trust not your strength instead beware,
Your only safety lies in flight;
For in her stare there is a snare,
And in her smile there is a blight.
Her lips are like carnations, red,
Her face like newborn lilies, fair,
Her eyes beckon you to her bed,
She moves with subtle grace and air,
And there floats all about her head
The crimson glory of her hair.
But back behind those smiling lips,
And deep within those laughing eyes,
And beneath the sway of her hips,
And her caress and purring sighs,
The shadow of her soul's eclipse
Within a vampire's spirt lies.
For the great red witch I have seen,
And she has led me to her lair.
Beyond her lips my tongue has been;
I've kissed her face so flushed and fair;
She has entwined me in between
Her arms and bound me with her hair.
I felt those red lips burn and sear
My body like a living coal;
Obeyed her eyes' commands in fear,
Quivering magnet-like at her pole;
And did not care though I felt blear
As she sapped the strength from my soul.
Oh my dear friends, take care! Take care!
The great red witch rides out tonight.
Oh, my dear friends, please do beware!
Look not upon her beauty bright;
For in her stare there is a snare,
And in her smile there is a blight.
