Garden PHLOX in the Evening

A chapter in the book FLORALS

.....'King David'

Until several years ago I was not enough of a PHLOX fan to have any growing in my gardens. Then I came across a variety called 'The King' and I was hooked. I now have a ridiculous number of varieties growing in my gardens.

'The King' is the the purple one in this photo. Technically called 'multihued' rather than 'variegated' because it is a blossom whose shades softly meld into one another rather than having the sharp changes in colors that the word variegated implies. While it may not be one of the most aromatic of the PHLOX varieties I grow it IS one of the prettiest. The white PHLOX pictured here is known as 'David'- a crisp white VERY aromatic variety that I have shown here in the past.

The photo was taken in the evening using my 'flashlight method' I actually picked the white blossom to show w/ a red variety of PHLOX that I grow....just to show how red it was but I ended up dragging that little white flower around and photographed it w/ at least ten different colored PHLOX varieties. I particularly liked how good these two looked together though and am showing this pairing first.
