I am not a big 'shrub' type gardener. I remember being at my folks place with Padre showing me his POTENTILLA shrubs and I'm afraid my attitude was "...ho-hum....they're nice...I guess" He grew a variety w/ yellow flowers.

Then one day at a garden center I came across a variety of POTENTILLA called 'Mango Tango' and even though it was not flowering I purchased it just for the name. I was NOT disappointed. It blossomed w/ these fabulous gold/orange flowers w/ shades of a dark orange almost red color. Against it's very dark green foliage it was stunning. That's 'Mango Tango' pictured here.

One of the outstanding characteristics of this plant is that it is just about maintenance free. POTENTILLAS are seldom bothered by insects, require limited if any pruning, and are not really fussy about planting soils. They bloom from mid-June all the way through until first frost. Besides 'Mango Tango' I now have one in white...one in yellow....and there's a brand new RED variety I want to add next year. LOL...I am a shrub-convert!
