Spurn Point is a narrow sand peninsula stretching out into the North Sea, with one bank on the North Sea and the other on the mouth of the River Humber. It is over three miles long and at its narrowest part is only 50 yards wide. It is home to the RNLI Lifeboat Station and at one time several Lifeboat men and their families lived at the tip in a cluster of houses. However, a few years ago they had to abandon the houses due to the peninsula being breached by the sea and now they have to travel from nearby villages to work. It is only a few miles from where I live on the coast and I used to take my three children there many years ago as it was a magical place - the calm waters of the river on one side and then over the other side the sea. It is owned by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and there are deer and many types of birds there, so always something to watch. Also two old lighthouses for the kids to explore. I used water mixable oil colours on 9" x 12" cotton canvas pad for this.
