The Rhinoceros Hornbill is named for the upturned casque or 'horn' that sits atop their giant colorful beaks. They make a honking sound that is amplified by the horn.
These birds live in the lowland hill forests of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Java and Sumatra. They are about as large as a swan and their wingspan is five feet. Their lifespan is 35 years, or longer in captivity. The only difference between the male and female is the eye coloring. Males have red eyes and the females have white eyes.
