Into the Light

Dramatic Burt

This is one of our Doberman, Burt and one the "dramatic" photos of him. He is 12 years old, so fairly senior for his breed. His grey beard works really well with the oil filter because it enhances the light source I have had him look into.

The set up was very dark actually. All lights were off, and I only used one light source pretty close and coming from the side directly onto his handsome face. He hates looking into the camera, so the side it is.

I hope you like it :)
NOTE: This is shrunk down to about 1/6 of the size, the lines normally look smoother.

I use a Nikon D800 with a 24-70 f/2.8 Sigma lens. Actually one of my favourite lenses!
This particular photo clearly had a lot of work done to it, however the process of making this lasting pretty photo of Burt was so worth it.

So here are the technical details.
Nikon D800

f/6.3
exposure 1/200 sec
ISO-100
at 70mm

Light source:
1 elinchrom light using a Beauty dish with a diffuser plus grid.

Then the work on the photo took an enormous amount of time and I had to apply the filter like about 30 times, however each time I applied it I masked out certain areas, especially his eye so it remained untouched, plus I needed to create highlights and shadows in certain areas.
