Maccoa Duck

Maccoa ducks are inhabitants of Africa. Adult males have a solid black head and blue bill with a chestnut body. The females have grey, brown bodies with a dark brown crown and a dark grey bill. They are rarer than previously believed, so they have been uplisted from a species of least concern to a near threatened status in 2007 IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List. This is a male juvenile who is enjoying a rain shower (at the MN Zoo), will eventually have a solid blue bill and a full black head.
