Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie - Photo (a) Contest Entry
Found this little guy in my kumquat bush here in Southern California. Not sure his species but I believe it's a Orange Orb Weaver. Non-toxic but will bite and pierce with its sharp extremely long legs.
If you look close at the face you can see the eyes. Spider eyes of this type often appear white just after molting. Fresh eyes. I think he has just molted due to the debris on the leaves. They molt in a cocoon. The body or exoskeleton is pale. Like a candy gumball. It usually is pale after molting and over time will harden and turn amber to brown in color. Not nearly as pretty. Despite his long legs he has not been asked yet to play Basketball. Ha ha. Thank you for reviewing.
