The Liberty Drum

I love that drum's sonorous sound,
Parading round and round and round.
To young and old, pleasure it yields
And lures from cities and from fields
To laud freedom by linking arms
And spread the secret of its charms
To faraway and distant lands
As Liberty's drumbeat commands.
I love that drum's sonorous sound,
Parading round and round and round.
It chimes in time with loosened chains;
Its echoes die with allayed pains.
Gone are the groans, gone are the moans;
In their place boom the joy-filled tones
Of the drum and all it bestows;
Liberty - the scourge of our woes.
