Late Autumn in the Orchard

.....The Hula Girls

I have a small (about 10 trees) but very old Apple Orchard next to my gardens. From research I have done it seems these trees have been here for almost 100 years.....and once they lose their foliage in the Autumn they look it. They are these wonderful old gnarly trees which btw all still produce apples.

The Orchard is in two small sections w/ the trees shown here being closer to the gardens....so I study them frequently when I am cleaning up the flower beds in the Autumn. The two trees here I think of as 'The Hula Girls' because their long, gnarly 'arms' seem to be dancing.

I love the way the Orchard looks when it first snows......the long grasses around the Apple Trees turn this vibrant copper color. Even some of the branches of the Apple Trees seem to take on the same color. Took this photo mid-day when the sky was very overcast. It wasn't snowing but the wind was blowing around some of the new snow that had just fallen. I thought the 'Hula Girls' had a very exotic look to them that day.
