Crowned Pigeons are the largest members of the family that included doves and pigeons. They are related to the extinct Dodo.
The Victoria crowned pigeon is one of three unique pigeons native to New Guinea. It is named for the elegant blue, lace-like crest on it's head and the British Monarch Queen Victoria.
