This is a female Urial, which is a type of the Mouflon or Wild Sheep, also known as the Arkars or Shapo. They are found in Asia from Iraq to Kazakhstan and India. This particular subspecies is a Transcaspian Urial at the MN Zoo, they are found in Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The Transcaspian Urial is considered vulnerable to extinction due to poaching and competition for food with livestock since their diets are mainly grass. The females have shorter horns than the males and do not have the long white beard at the neck like the males do.
