JUNE2017 Open Challenge-All Medians Contest Entry
Native Americans tell a story about this attractive bird. The Bunting was the last in line when Great Spirit gave all the birds their colors, but the Great Spirit run out of dye when the time came to paint the Bunting. So the Great spirit took all what was left of the colors and gave them to the Bunting. Then he added some magic, so that the bird could change its colors at will.

There is truth to the legend. The light which is falling on the bird is scattered by particles in the feathers, which then reflect the light. In the shadows the feathers won't reflect. That makes it look as if the bird indeed could change color and it makes it difficult to see them in a thickest.

I worked on the painting for several weeks. It was finished on June 55 2017, just before posting.
