Just a few differences in the code of a single gene can determine the fur color of an animal. I have always been attracted to animals with black fur. Most of my cats have had black fur, my favorite dogs have black fur and I like black wolves. Wolves with black pelts owe their distinctive coloration to a mutation which occurred in domestic dogs, and was carried to wolves through wolf-dog hybridization. Besides coat color they are normal grey wolves.
