AQUILIGIA formosa
.....'Swan Lake' Interloper

This very pretty pure white AQUILIGIA (aka- 'Columbine') showed up in the Wood Shed Bed at my place 4 or 5 years ago. What's so unusual about that is the fact that I had not added it to the Wood Shed Bed- or any other bed for that matter. Even more unusual, I had added no new flowers anywhere that season, yet there it was...right in front of a large clump of bright red MONARDA (aka- Bee balm').....
It could not have selected a better place to make an appearance at my place. Although it's typically several weeks earlier than the red MONARDA they do tend to overlap for several weeks each season and the white AQUILIGIA seen in this image looks absolutely stunning in front of the fire engine red 'Jacob Kline' MONARDA.
I took this photo several mornings ago when I noticed how perfectly the five little seed heads were curved all at the same angle making this single blossom look like five Swans in a circle....their petal-like 'wings' gently raised behind them. So while I still don't know why or how these pretty little guys ended up where they did I happily enjoy their Swan Lake Ballet each season.
