Kalanchoe delagoensis is a succulent herb native to Madagascar. It got, sometimes accidentally, introduced to other tropical areas by trade. It thrives in most warm climates with excellent drainage, but it is a noxious weed when not controlled. One of its common names is Mother of Thousands because it produces viviparous plantlets on notches along the leave margins as shown in the photo above. Goethe's Tree is the translation of the German common name Goethe-Baum, so named after the German Writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who is said obtained the plant on his travels and introduced it to Germany where it is still common as house plant.
