The Great Sea Dragon?

~Chimaera Monstrosa~

by Sean T Phelan

Here's my ( partially ) repaired , scanned & digitally framed version of a drawing I created in the early 1980s which had deteriorated badly during it's decades of storage in my attic 'archives'.
'Chimaera monstrosa' certainly is an unusual looking deep water creature with an evolutionary heritage dating back to the primitive sharks and rays of some 400 million years ago but it's actually a more common type of modern day fish than many people would suspect!
( We 'land lubbers' just seldom see them in their complete, living form! )
Sometimes called 'Ghost Sharks' and 'Spook Fish' ( and possessing a sharp dorsal spine that can deliver a painful sting ) specimens of over five feet ( about a meter and a half ) in length have been caught in the north Atlantic!'
