This was an unexpected view when we took a tour of old Fort Point, located under the golden gate bridge in San Francisco. The fort has a long history with Spain and Mexico in possession at different times. The US ultimately took possession of the area and built a fort just before the start of the civil war. It now exists as a National Historic Site.
