Graphite drawing on A5 paper of a 4 year old boy.

I'm Four

This is a drawing I did in graphite on A5 size paper of the grandson of a friend of a friend. He was so pleased to tell me he was four years old, and when he heard that I draw, he wanted me to draw his portrait right then. However, he was exhausted and falling asleep. I photographed him with my mobile phone, the only camera I had that evening, to use as references to do this detailed piece. He tried to smile, but was so tired with his little arm propping up his little head and teeth clenched together saying, 'cheese' - he was adorable. However, the expression was distorted from the pose, so I changed it quite a bit and recreated his gentle smile from memory. I was still experimenting with locally available papers, and this one didn't allow me to get as much detail as I would have liked, but it was my first attempt in this style and overall I'm happy with the results; and the boy's family was ecstatic.
